Urinary Incontinence

Urinary Incontinence

A little drip here and there, a trickle with a high jump, or a gush with the funniest joke are never normal. So many women (and men!!), of all ages, suffer quietly for years with urinary incontinence.

There are two main types of urinary incontinence – stress and urge. Many physicians or providers might even diagnose yours as mixed (meaning a little of both). Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is when you are doing something – laughing, jumping, coughing, sneezing, getting up from the floor – and you leak urine. Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI) is when you have a sudden urge to use the restroom and on your way there cannot hold it, leaking in your underwear or liner before making it to the toilet.

Providers are quick to prescribe medications, offer the use of pads or possibly jump to the idea of surgery. Seeking out knowledgeable, practical, conservative care should always be your first step. At Frankly Pelvic, your pelvic health physical therapist has a strong understanding of all the neighbors living amongst your pelvic floor – urinary friends, bowel, and reproductive organs – all amongst your nerves, muscles, tissues, the whole lot!  Looking at your overall strength, mobility, (any) scar tissue, possible prolapse, and functional movements, in addition to an internal pelvic floor exam (if warranted and consented to) to assess pelvic floor muscle tone, coordination, and timing, Dr. Frank will be able to send you home with an efficient functional exercise program to reduce and stop leaking once and for all.

Save money on pads, extra underwear, embarrassment, and start living your life without fear of leakage by seeking out pelvic health physical therapy today!
