Finding out that a dear friend or loved one has experienced pain, trauma, or discomfort during times we think should be filled with pleasure, love, and joy is always heart breaking. Pelvic pain goes by many names – can be experienced by all genders and with all forms of intimacy, and is not, nor ever, normal or expected*.
Pelvic pain can arise for many reasons.
Musculoskeletal: tight muscles, weak muscles, uncoordinated muscles
Tissue Issues: unhealthy or atrophied tissue, adhesions, scar tissue
Nerve problems: hypersensitivity or allodynia (incorrect nerve reactions)
Trauma, Abuse, Assault
Emotional, Stress related
Jaw or TMJ tension, chronic migraines
Other diseases or syndromes: endometriosis, PCOS, Ehlers Danlos, disc and back issues, surgical.
The list goes on…
A lot of times it can be a combination of reasons. And absolutely some reasons that might not be listed. Whatever your reason for pelvic pain, we at Frankly Pelvic want to make sure that you are able to move your body without discomfort, participate in routine activities, enjoy pleasurable activities as you please, and attend health screenings (Gynecological visits) without pain.
Frankly Pelvic also utilizes a holistic approach by referring to practitioners including mental health therapy, psychotherapy, and sex therapy as needed to ensure you can progress strategies, stretches, manual skills from the clinic into the bedroom and/or with your partner or loved one. We value that our sessions are safe, welcoming, and productive and free from shame and embarrassment. At all times we discuss with you our goals for the session, a specific treatment or manual approach while only performing or palpating areas we gain consent for. Consent is an ongoing agreement as we want your bodily autonomy to be the highest priority.
*If you DO wish to experience pain with pleasure or intimacy – that is normal and I’m excited for you! Routinely, vaginal penetration (speculum, tampon, finger, etc) should NOT be painful. Anal intercourse should be consensual, well thought out, and prepared for (lubrication, possibly rectal dilators, ensuring bowel habits do not change i.e., fecal leakage). Not doing so can result in pain and pelvic dysfunction.
*A travel fee will be applied to locations outside a 20-mile gps route from Altamonte Springs, FL
